How does Gopher Goo Work?
What are some of the benefits of Gopher Goo?
Q-1. WHAT IS GOPHER GOO?
Back to FAQ List
A. Gopher Goo is the ‘green’ gopher solution. It is a natural starch-based granule combined with simple, natural fertilizers and nutrients. When water is added, Gopher Goo plugs the holes of the gopher and become a near solid. It helps support injured plants and prevents water loss at the same time.
Q-2. HOW DOES GOPHER GOO WORK?
Back to FAQ List
A. Simply pour 1-2 oz, roughly a small handful of Gopher Goo into the hole or burrow and add enough water to wash the material down the hole and fully saturate it. A few minutes with your garden hose on high is usually enough. Give the product time to absorb and expand to its full capacity (about 20-30 minutes), and repeat until the hole or holes and burrows are full to ground level. Gopher Goo expands 300-500 times its size (depending on your water quality); lower salt levels and better quality water = more expansion of the product. We have found that slowly back-filling the holes and burrows is best. This is accomplished by adding 1-2 ounces of Goo, then adding water and waiting to get full expansion. If the hole is not filled after 30 minutes, simply re-apply until it is. If you add too much simply cut it off with a knife at ground level. It is fun and satisfying to do!
Q-3. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF GOPHER GOO?
Back to FAQ List
A. Gopher Goo is literally a garden lifesaver. It protects your plants while it allows you to force the gophers out of their holes and give them no where to go but out of your yard. You can catch them this way if the beds are lined (described in the gopher tips), and then the choice of what to do with the gopher is yours. It stops the gophers in their tracks while giving the plant a chance to survive the attack by holding precious water and nutrients near the remaining roots. It also saves water lost to gopher holes . . . that “going off to China” feeling is over, the hole is full and plugged for a year (or longer depending on your soil type and acidity). It saves water and protects the plants while excluding the gophers, or at least making gophers work a lot harder. The free lunch is over . . .
Q-4. HOW WAS GOPHER GOO DEVELOPED?
Back to FAQ List
A. Gopher Goo is the invention of a woman named Dr. Heather Vallier, a Plant Pathologist. Dr. Vallier specializes in “green” garden solutions has tested and perfected the goo polymer to provide the perfect amount and type of cross-linking to get the job done without disturbing near by plants or being toxic to the soil or environment.Gopher Goo solved her gopher emergency . . . her precious red banana was being slowly destroyed, and gave her the idea for the product line. After 25 years as a Plant Doctor she really understands what plants and soils need and want. Now when she gets a gopher she calmly goes into the lab and gets her Goo . . .
